Celtic Irish Fantasy Art ‘Fionn Mac Cumhaill’ (Finn MacCool). Fionn MacCumhaill was one of the legendary heroes of Early Fenian Ireland.
This is a reproduction from the original painting commissioned by the Royal Mail in Great Britain for their centenary celebrations and was for use in the section on Northern Ireland. Would have made a cool stamp too. My son Conánn helped me out with some of the drawing for this one.
The best-known tale of the giant Fionn tells how, in a fit of anger, he seized a huge chunk of earth and flung it into the Irish Sea, creating the Isle of Man while Lough Neagh formed from the massive hole left behind in the ground.
